Terms of use for readers of every reader powered by RoamBook. Organisations using RoamBook: see the client terms at roambook.io/client-terms.
Last updated: 26 October 2026. Interim version, under legal review. We will ask you to agree again if the final version changes anything significant.
1.1 RoamBook lets you read a book and watch short video and audio clips about the exact words you are reading. Organisations ("clients") — for example a church, a publisher or a book club — publish their books and recordings on RoamBook. You see each client's reader under that client's name, with the words "powered by RoamBook".
1.2 RoamBook is run by Outfly Innovation Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 07119494), registered office Fora Space, 42–46 Princelet Street, London E1 5LP ("RoamBook", "we", "us", "our"). You can contact us at contact@roambook.io.
1.3 These terms are an agreement between you and us. They cover your RoamBook account, the way the reader works, personalised suggestions, notifications and the personal guide. You accept them when you create an account by ticking the box. If you read without an account, sections 4, 5, 9 and 10 still apply to your use of the reader as the conditions on which you may use it.
1.4 The client is responsible for its own content. The books, recordings, clips, notes and tags you see in a client's reader are chosen and published by that client, not by us. If the client sells subscriptions or memberships, or runs its own community (for example on WhatsApp), those are between you and the client under the client's own terms. If the client's terms and these terms conflict, these terms govern your RoamBook account and the client's terms govern its content, community and payments.
1.5 Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal data: roambook.io/privacy. We are writing a short version for readers aged 13 to 17; until it is ready, email us with any question.
2.1 You can read, listen and watch without an account. Without an account you can also save clips on your device, choose voices you would like to hear more from for this visit only, and ask for notifications on your device.
2.2 With an account you can keep your saves and place across devices, see your history in "My library", get personalised suggestions, and — if you are 18 or over and the client offers it — use the personal guide.
2.3 To create an account you must give your date of birth and tick: "I agree to the Terms and have read the Privacy Policy." We keep a record of when you did so and which version you saw. If we change these terms significantly we will ask you to agree again.
2.4 You sign in with Google, with Apple or Facebook (where offered), or with a one-time link sent to your email address. We do not use passwords. Keep access to your Google, Apple or Facebook account and your email secure, because anyone who can use them can sign in as you.
2.5 Your saves, settings and suggestions are kept separately for each client's reader. If you use the same email address with readers of two clients, the same sign-in works for both, but deleting your account with one client does not delete the other.
2.6 Give us accurate information, including your real date of birth, and keep your email address up to date. One person, one account.
3.1 You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 13 you can still read, listen and watch without an account. We do not keep a date of birth that shows you are under 13.
3.2 If you are 13 to 17, you can have an account and save clips. The personal guide is not available to you. We do not learn what you like or personalise your suggestions. Notifications start switched off. You will not get emails from the client other than sign-in and account emails. The client's WhatsApp community link is hidden until you are 16.
3.3 When you turn 18 these features become available, but they stay off until you switch them on.
3.4 If you read without signing in we do not know your age, so we do not show the client's community links or offer notifications to readers who are not signed in.
3.5 Please make sure a parent or guardian is happy for you to use RoamBook if you are under 18. Some clients make their reader only for adults or only for their members. The client decides who may read its content.
4.1 Content is published by the client. We do not check it in advance and we do not endorse it. Views expressed in it are the speakers' and the client's, not ours.
4.2 Some titles, summaries and section headings are suggested by our software and approved by the client. They describe the clip; they are not the speaker's own words.
4.3 Clients can change or remove content, or close their reader, at any time. We cannot promise that any particular book or clip will stay available, including clips linked from printed QR codes. If a clip has been removed, its link shows that it is no longer available.
5.1 If you think content, a clip title or a personal guide answer is unlawful, infringes someone's rights (for example copyright), is defamatory, or puts someone at risk, tell us. Use the Report link under the clip or answer, or email contact@roambook.io with the page address, what is wrong and why, and your contact details.
5.2 We will acknowledge your report within 2 working days. We will pass it to the client, which normally has 5 working days to respond. Where the law or our agreement with the client allows, we may hide or remove the content while we look into it, and we will remove it if it is unlawful. We will tell you what we decided.
5.3 If content you uploaded or a decision about you is involved and you disagree, you can ask us to look again by replying to our decision. If someone repeatedly infringes others' rights, we may close their access.
5.4 In an emergency, call 999. Do not wait for us to reply.
6.1 If the client's reader offers personalised suggestions and you are 18 or over, RoamBook learns which kinds of content you like from what you watch, finish, skip, save, share and read in that client's reader. We use this to order the clips we suggest to you (for example "For you" and "Keep going"). We learn from the client's tags, such as topic, theme and speaker.
6.2 Heritage tags. Some clients tag clips with a speaker's heritage, where the speaker has agreed to that tag. If the client has switched on heritage matching, we also learn which heritage tags appear on the clips you watch, and give similar voices a boost in your suggestions. We never ask your own heritage or label you with one.
6.3 Personalised suggestions are on when you create an account if you are 18 or over. You can switch them off at any time on My profile. Switching off deletes what we have learned about your interests straight away. You can also clear your suggestions, see why a clip was suggested, and mark a clip "Not interested". Learning from heritage tags has its own switch on My profile: it is on by default for adults where the client has switched heritage matching on, and you can switch it off on its own and keep the rest.
6.4 Personalisation only changes the order of suggestions. It never hides content from you, never decides what you can access or pay, and never has any legal or similarly significant effect on you. Everything in the client's reader can still be found through its books, sections and search.
6.5 Your interests are never shown to the client and are never sent to any AI service. RoamBook staff see them only when needed to support you or keep the service secure. Access through our support tools is logged.
6.6 "Voices I'd like to hear more from". Some clients let you choose voices you would like to hear more from. If you choose, we give those voices a boost. You can keep the choice for this visit only, or remember it on your account, and clear it at any time. You never have to make this choice.
6.7 When you are not signed in, we do not build a profile of you.
7.1 Some clients offer a personal guide in their reader. The client may give it its own name; if it does, the name is always shown with the words "automated guide". It is available only to signed-in readers aged 18 or over who have accepted these terms.
7.2 The personal guide is automated (AI), not a person. It uses AI language models to write answers automatically from the client's published books, approved clips and notes the client has given it. Even if the client gives it a name, it is not a member of the client's staff. It shows where its answers come from. It can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and it may misunderstand your question. Check anything important against the sources it shows.
7.3 The personal guide does not give professional advice. It is not a source of medical, legal, financial, psychological, pastoral or emergency help, and it does not make decisions about you. Do not rely on it for decisions about your faith, health or safety; talk to a person you trust.
7.4 If you or someone else is in danger, call 999 (or your local emergency number). In the UK and Ireland you can talk to Samaritans, free, at any time on 116 123; you can text SHOUT to 85258; children and young people can call Childline on 0800 1111. The personal guide tries to recognise messages that suggest someone may be at risk and then shows these and similar contacts (and the client's support contact) instead of a written answer. This works whether or not you are signed in. It can miss messages, so please do not rely on it.
7.5 Please do not share personal details — about yourself or anyone else — such as health, family, money or contact details in your questions.
7.6 When using the personal guide you must not:
7.7 There are daily limits on questions, and the client can switch its personal guide off. We may switch the personal guide off, change it, or suspend your access to it — for example to keep it safe, to stop misuse, if a client asks us to, if an AI supplier stops the service, or if you break these terms. If you pay the client for access that includes the guide, the client's terms say what happens then.
7.8 We keep your conversations for 90 days so that we can run and protect the service, and then delete them. We do not use your conversations to train AI models. Under our AI suppliers' business terms, your requests are not used to train their models; the suppliers may keep requests for a limited time to detect abuse. We switch on zero retention where a supplier offers it.
8.1 Notifications. If you ask for notifications, we may send you "Today's words" (a short daily passage from the client's books) and news of new clips on books you are reading. We do not send them during quiet hours. You can turn them off at any time in your device settings or on My profile, and from the link in each notification. Before your device asks you, we explain what we will send. If you are 13 to 17, they start switched off.
8.2 Communities. A client may offer a link to its own community, for example on WhatsApp. The community is run by the client, not by RoamBook, and WhatsApp's own terms apply. Other members may see your phone number. We do not moderate it. It is for people aged 16 and over.
8.3 Emails from the client. Sign-in and account emails come from RoamBook, sometimes in the client's name. A client may email you about its own services only if it has your permission or another lawful basis. It will not email readers under 18 other than sign-in and account emails.
9.1 You must not:
10.1 The content belongs to the client or the people it licenses it from. You may read, watch and listen to it for your own personal, non-commercial use within the reader. You may keep copies offline using "Keep for offline" for that use only.
10.2 You may share links to clips and pages using the share buttons. You may also share the share images we make for you (for example a card with the speaker's picture and the quoted words), unchanged, on social media and messaging apps for non-commercial purposes. Sharing does not give anyone any other rights in the content.
10.3 If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely.
10.4 The RoamBook software, design and name belong to us or our licensors.
11.1 If a client charges for access to its reader, that is an agreement between you and the client on the client's terms, and the client handles cancellations and refunds. Payments are not taken through RoamBook today. Before they are, we will add the payment terms here and ask you to agree again.
12.1 We work to keep RoamBook available, secure and working well, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free of errors. We may need to pause it for maintenance or to fix problems.
12.2 We may change or improve features, and a client may switch features on or off for its reader. We may change or switch off features where the law or a regulator requires it.
13.1 You can delete your account at any time from My profile. This deletes your account and the data linked to it, as explained in our Privacy Policy. You can download a copy of your data first. If you pay the client for a subscription, cancel it first.
13.2 We may suspend or close your account, or stop you using a feature such as the personal guide, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we must do so by law, or to protect other readers, the client, the service or the public. Where it is safe and lawful, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
13.3 What a client can do. A client can block you from its reader (you can no longer sign in to it) or remove you (your account with that reader and your saves there are deleted, and any subscription with the client ends). The client makes these decisions under its own rules; we carry them out. If you think a decision is wrong, contact the client first; you can also email us. If you are blocked and then delete your account, the block stays: we keep a scrambled form of your email address so that the block still works.
13.4 A client can also close its reader, or its reader may be paused (for example if the client stops using RoamBook). If that happens, your RoamBook account and data stay with us under our Privacy Policy. We will email you, and you can still download or delete your data by emailing contact@roambook.io. We delete the personalisation data and guide conversations for that reader within 30 days, and the account under the inactive-account rule in our Privacy Policy (24 months after your last sign-in, after a warning email).
14.1 If you are a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to services that are not provided with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.
14.2 We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit.
14.3 Otherwise, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or our failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
14.4 RoamBook is for personal use. We are not responsible to you for any loss of profit, business or business opportunity.
14.5 We are not responsible for content published by a client, for the client's own services, subscriptions or communities, or for websites and services we link to that we do not run.
15.1 If you have a problem or a complaint, email us at contact@roambook.io. We aim to reply within 5 working days. For problems with content or subscriptions, contact the client too. For complaints about your personal data, see section 14 of our Privacy Policy; you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
16.1 A client may offer its reader as a phone app. The app is published by the client in the app store under its own name, but your account, these terms and our Privacy Policy are RoamBook's.
16.2 If you got the app from Apple's App Store or Google Play:
17.1 We aim for the reader to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. If something in the reader is hard to use, or you need content in another format, use the Accessibility link in the reader or email contact@roambook.io. We will publish an accessibility statement with any known gaps.
18.1 We may update these terms, for example when we change the service or the law changes. We will show the date of the latest version at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the reader or by email before it takes effect and ask you to agree again. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
19.1 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
19.2 If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. We may transfer our rights and duties under these terms to another organisation that takes over RoamBook; we will tell you, and this will not reduce your rights.
